Burgmann Anglican School, is a Preschool to Year 12 facility developed over a series of stages, guided by a Master Plan. It is a unique school that incorporates various pedagogical developments within a flexible matrix of spaces.  This matrix has been developed like a town and promotes community pride, interaction, adaptability, environmental innovation and flexible learning spaces. This sets the framework for the more detailed design of spaces at a lower personal level.  It is important that the overall concept has a large palette of shapes and materials for stimulation. Providing a clear relationship with spaces, establishing connections and attachment to place.

The school has become a unique habitat in many ways incorporating numerous sustainable technologies such as solar hydronic heating and cooling, rainwater storage, natural ventilation, overland drainage and sensible material selection.  It has the lowest water use of any school in Canberra.  Extensive native landscaping and ponds have increased the ecological diversity in the grounds of the school, directly impacting on the education of the students in the school.  Burgmann School lives within its environment – a response to climate, landscape and the complexity of life.
